Bloggirl Indonesia of the Week (1): Hany Von Gillern
When i was at my junior school level, i remembered that one of my teachers at school said that women or girl was more creative than man or boy. Was it true? I had no idea at that time. The moment i realised this was when the same teacher asked all of us in the class to make a handicraft from any material we liked as one of the assigment of a subject called "Keterampilan" in local term. When time of collecting the assigment had come, most of the boys in my class used the same material, and 'accidently' same kind of handicraft also. Most of them used a soap and transformed it into an ashtray. But the girl did differently. Most of them, including me, made the use of different material to make different kind of handicrafts. Only some of them used the same material and formed same things. There was one who used tissues to be transformed into a flower, the other used a particular ribbon to form a fish, and i myself made more than one handicraft, flower and embroidered goods. In fact, i like making handicraft a lot, even until now i'm still doing it, and sometimes ago i used to get money from that.
Maybe the assumption that woman is more creative than man is not totally true, because there are a lot of men out there who also involve in women stuff, and sometimes more expert than women themselves.
Anyway, this [handicraft] is maybe one of the girl's stuffs in the sense that not all boys or men like it. Based on my experience (again) in these kinda stuffs, you can find the other side of happiness, enjoyment, etc. when you do this activity. At least this is what i feel until now when i'm doing it. When i'm working on my handicraft stuffs, sometimes i forget about so many things for some reasons, even to take my meal. Yeah, anybody who ever deals with this sort of activity will know it, and i'm sure, have that kind of feeling, too.
Hany Von Gillern may be one of them. Surfing along her blogs, you will find so many kind of handicrafts, complete with the procedures how to do it, the materials, and some information about it. And not only that, there are pictures of many beautiful handicrafts also. I was amazed at the first moment i found her blog. It shows that she is really belong to this 'handicraft world', and i'm sure that she is a professional handicraft-woman, too. In my view, she has found her life and happiness in handicraft stuffs, besides the other things. Quoted from her beloved husband saying for her, "Crafts not only make others feel good, but make Hany feel good".
Most of her readers are women who have the same interest, and it includes I myself. The last entry on her blog is about ribbon roses, and i already try it by myself. The result was not so bad. That you sister Hany. Just like she said "Ini mawar yang gak akan pernah layu,....." (These roses won't never be withered).
Moreover, handicraft is one of good ways to practice your creativity such as force your mind to think about new idea, and maybe can grow your coriousity in trasforming something to be a good and beautiful thing. And based on my experience, besides you can practice your creativity, of course, you also can earn money from this activity. Because when you can produce a good product with your skill, may be you can sell it. I remembered when i was at the third grade of my High Scholl (kelas 3 SMU - local term), i used to sell my handicrafts to my classmates and friends, and also to my neighbour. There were so many kind of handicrafts i made such as brooch which already been modified with some ornament, hand-bags from a certain kind of string which i knit by using a special needle also, or floral wreath in which the flower were being made from straws, etc. The money i earned at that time helped me to fulfil my needs during my school time, like the bus fees, buying textbooks, and others. On the other side, inderectly i helped my parents, even only a little one.
So, for everyone of you, especially bloggirl, who wants to try something in handicraft stuffs, and maybe can get some benefits from it, directly go to her blog and find what do you want to know.
